I've Got A Case Of Blue Barrel Anxeity

I suffer from "Blue Barrel anxiety, and therefore many others across the country. BBA What you ask? Think of it like that. You are cleaning up after a family picnic, the table is covered with sheets of paper, an empty jar of pickles, a plastic container of mustard and many other things made from plastic and paper packages … other things. If you 've ever wondered, is it going in the garbage or recycle bin, then you have experienced what millions of us, the dreaded BBA, Blue Barrel anxiety. "

I suffered so much BBA I do not know what lay in my blue bin … I even got a letter from my company for collection refuse to tell me that I was about to lose my privileges Blue Barrel. Do not get discouraged, I discovered the cure for BBA. It turns by self-education, BBA can be reduced and, more importantly for me, more letters.

I set up a visit to my local recycling center. WARNING and DISCLAIMER: Prepare yourself to see first hand what happens to the things you put in your trash can shock you. Maybe you might consider taking a friend or family for moral support. You will need it.

How's my turn to go? Well, it was not what I expected. The facility I went to gave the tour a confined space where we observed the process through the windows. We have not heard much noise or odors enjoy. The room we were in was equipped with a deodorant that periodically rotated a mist covered the air all noxious odors. I wondered what was in the deodorant and why suddenly I felt a lot of love for all recyclers working collection online, hmmmmm.

Anyway … the thing that got my attention the most was the amount of "Recycled" items that are not recycled. Many things … most things we put into our recycling bins are not recycled they are disposed of in landfill. I was a little surprised and a little worse than all the plastic, boxes, containers and I rinsed and placed carefully in my basket were treated like garbage and I was wondering why?

The guide should have seen the questions in my eyes … I heard the new mister and spray the back of love. The guide then explained that recycling, while being good for the environment is ultimately a commercial activity. The items we are launching with no market value are stored or sent to landfill. Most of what I saw being has been saved plastic containers and cardboard, so I guess most subjects gets garbage. The guide went on to say: "When something something has value or is there a market for recycled paper, he is captured, delivered and sold. "I had a tray full of glass bottles and I asked our guide why they were not recycled? His answer was that it is cheaper to manufacture glass new rather than recycled. I became educated and my BBA was starting to ease. I learned that recycling is a money issue, at least here in the U.S., it is, and until there is a demand for recycled glass or glass virgin prices rising …. it is out of the earth with waste glass used.

It appears that U.S. recyclers are very picky about what they want and are only willing to spend of time, effort and money on items that can easily and quickly be captured from the recycle stream. In other countries has taken recycling a whole new meaning. I recently read about another country where even a tennis shoe was removed for metal, leather and rubber. Is profitable? Probably not, but these countries are coming closer to a sustainable lifestyle than us. The tour was a revelation and he asked me if there was real value for recycling here in the U.S., or it was simply a way to make money, which seems to be the environment?

Organizations that promote and support recycling by the United States need to do more to develop new markets for the goods we throw into our landfills. Most of their efforts are devoted to maintaining the status quo of recycling and they do not like to anyone rocking the boat trash.

Public awareness and acceptance of environmental programs is increasing and organizations Recycling should adopt the ecology and its potential benefits. The United States should follow the example of countries that have recycling programs, programs which recovers up to 75% of waste. Recyclers need to get away from the idea that recycling is a business profit and start watching recycling as an anchor for all our programs on the environment.

Use, reuse, recycle and recovery are all about sustainability, it should become the mantra of all businesses and consumers. We need to rethink how our products and packaging are designed, used and when the life of a product is on how the resource is recovered. Durability is important for our future and is the only way we can ensure a healthy planet and that resources will be available for future generations.
